Safeguards, accountability and public information.

SLERAZ has environmental and social safeguards, stakeholder-engagement requirements, monitoring arrangements and financial oversight. This page summarises the information that is appropriate for public access.

Environmental and social safeguards

The project technical annex records SLERAZ as a high-risk, Category 1 operation under the Bank's environmental and social framework. Safeguard instruments were prepared, reviewed, cleared and disclosed before approval.

Stakeholder consultation

The annex records public consultations during the environmental and social studies and further community meetings in Kychum, Kambia District, and Kathoma, Port Loko District, in August 2025. The purpose was to explain the project and management plans and collect feedback for project design.

Grievance redress

The project includes a grievance redress mechanism. This provides a formal channel for communities, workers and other stakeholders to raise project-related concerns and seek resolution.

Monitoring and oversight

The monitoring and evaluation system is intended to track project outputs, outcomes and implementation progress, including gender-disaggregated indicators. The financing institution is expected to conduct regular supervision missions, while annual financial statements are subject to external audit arrangements.

This website is intended to make core project information easier to understand. It can publish approved project objectives, targets, financing, safeguard information, implementation updates, public opportunities, reports and verified results.
